U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Luis Andujar, a Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems instructor with 1st Battalion, 166th Regiment - Regional Training Institute, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, lands a Skydio X2D SUAS during a training exercise Nov. 15, 2024 at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa. The capabilities of the 166th Regiment RTI's 1st and 2nd Battalions melded during a unique artillery live-fire exercise, during which forward observers with 1st Battalion used several types of SUAS, including commercial off the shelf models like the Skydio X2D, to identify targets and acquire targeting data. This data was used to submit a call for fire to instructors and students with 2nd Battalion, who engaged the targets with artillery fire using M119, M777 and M109A6 howitzers.
