Command Sergeant Major Timothy Hileman

Command Sergeant Major - Army

As of February 1, 2017 Command Sgt. Maj. Hileman serves as the Joint Forces Headquarters Army command sergeant major and performs the duties of principal advisor to the Assistant Adjutant General and Staff on matters pertaining to the enlisted soldiers of the PA Army National Guard.

Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy Hileman entered the Army in 1987 and completed basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky.  He was first assigned as a cavalry scout in Headquarters Troop, 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regt., 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas. In 1988, he was reassigned to 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regt., 1st Armored Division in Erlangen, Germany. In Germany, he performed the duties of reconnaissance team leader, TOW missile gunner, scout section leader, and OPFOR scout section leader.  
 

He joined the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in 1992 and was assigned to the scout platoon of the 1st Battalion, 103rd Armor Regt., 28th Infantry Division in Johnstown, Pa. He performed the duties of scout section leader and platoon sergeant. He was later assigned as battalion intelligence sergeant and then headquarters company first sergeant. 
 

Command Sgt. Maj. Hileman was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003.  He was selected to be an instructor at the Pennsylvania Non-Commissioned Officer Academy and instructed the first sergeant course at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa. In 2008, he was promoted to sergeant major and assigned as the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team’s operations sergeant major. In 2009, he was assigned to the Brigade Special Troops Battalion as the command sergeant major, and additionally assigned the duties of command sergeant major of the CBRNE Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP). In 2013, Command Sgt. Maj. Hileman was assigned as the command sergeant major of the 166th Regiment (RTI). He was selected to be the commandant of the NCO Academy at Camp Buehring, Kuwait in 2014. In April of 2015, he returned to 2nd Brigade and deployed with the Brigade Headquarters and served as the Multinational Battle Group East CSM in Kosovo during 2016.

 

Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy Hileman’s military education includes: Basic Armored Reconnaissance Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Cavalry Scout Basic Non-commissioned Officer Course, NBC Officer Defense Course, Cavalry Scout Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Total Army Instructor Trainer Course, Small Group Instructor Course, First Sergeant Course, and the Sergeants Major Academy.

 

Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy Hileman has an associate’s degree from the Pennsylvania State University, a Bachelor of Arts degree from the American Public University in Emergency Management and holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the American Military University. Command Sgt. Maj. Hileman’s civilian position is Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Altoona, Pa. Command Sgt. Maj. Hileman is married and has three daughters and three granddaughters.
